Hi this is us looking our best! Lyndsey, Robert and the twins. With the kids ponies, Mouse and Tinkerbell.

We are New Forest commoners and we turn out a small herd of New Forest ponies, Aberdeen Angus cattle and pigs on to the Forest. Having lived in the New Forest all of our lives we are passionate about ensuring our commoning traditions and the extraordinary biodiversity of the Forest which it supports continues.

Why Cuffnells? All of our ponies and the cattle we enter in the annual breed show have the prefix Cuffnells. All registered ponies have a prefix, a bit like a surname which identifies their breeder. Cuffnells was the family home of Alice Hargreaves who as a child was the inspiration for Alice in Alice in Wonderland. It was also at different times the our grandparents’ farm. Robert inherited the prefix from his Grandfather – like many things in the Forest, prefixes are often passed down through the generations.

Whilst New Forest ponies feature on nearly every image of the New Forest, commoners are rarely spotted. Through this blog we hope to share our commoning lives with you. The ups and downs of farming and family life in the New Forest.
